1 TB RDX Removable Disk Cartridge Expands Construction Imaging® Storage Capabilities

May 10th, 2010 by patricia

1 TB RDX removable disk technology supports key needs of construction industry document imaging. Construction Imaging® software systems manage volumes of scanned images and electronic data including large Building Information Modeling (BIM) files. There are diverse requirements for secure electronic data storage in the construction industry including securing scanned job-site documents, accounting documents, engineering files and images. To meet business rules and regulatory requirements Construction content management systems, such as Construction Imaging’s, must ensure compliance with all federal, state and local construction and building data management regulations. Documents must be protected from alteration, retained reliably, archived, and easily recovered for any business and regulatory compliance issues or disaster recovery.

The Right Hardware
Part of Construction Imaging’s solution is the right hardware — workstations, scanners and ruggedized storage. The right storage solution is crucial. This is where RDX removable disk technology comes in. RDX removable disk provides all the access and performance benefits of online storage with the economic benefits of offline storage. Document imaging was once the hotbed for optical storage because of its WORM (Write once, Read many) capabilities, but today the optical storage market is declining due to other technologies surpassing it in reliability, capacity, performance, density and cost effectiveness— all of which are strengths of RDX removable disk technology.

ProStor Systems recently announced its 1 TB RDX removable storage cartridge; We believe this innovative technology offers a scalable, efficient solution to our scanned images, BIM, and data file backup needs RDX’s true forward compatibility seamlessly leverages new capacity points, like the 1TB cartridge, as opposed to tape which requires a technology refresh to take advantage of each capacity increase. Use of both RDX online and RDX removable disk technology provides the benefits of removable media with the performance advantages of disk in a single architecture.

This enables organizations to reduce the cost of storing and protecting the data that is critical for them to retain. IT solution areas including: Overall retention management, protection from obsolescence, disaster recovery, regulatory compliance, legal storage, tape reduction and backup optimization.

RDX Automating Business Rules and Compliance
Construction Imaging’s RDX removable disk technology augmented with ProStor compliance software can meet the most rigorous business rules whether driven by corporate policies, government regulations or other legal requirements. Data can be set to be automatically retained for a required length of time, and then deleted. All the while authenticity, immutability, accessibility, and confidentiality are maintained. The RDX system we use encrypts offline data, supports eDiscovery activities and provides complete audit trails for determining chain-of-custody. To accomplish all this, a broad set of features are available for a variety of IT challenges. Our customers can meet compliance requirements and best practices for storage as where in the past these were met by using internal disks and optical drives, which meet severe limitations. RDX removable disk technology’s portability, ruggedness, and scalability for backup, restore, archive and disaster recovery make it ideal for document imaging, Large modeling files and other data files.
